LOVE/HATE:  SATURN’S RETURN

A friend politely asked us yesterday how old we were.  We said, “we’re 28” he took a step back and said, “wow, so how are you dealing with Saturn’s Return?”

We were shocked. How did HE (an urban hip hop lovin’ male) know about Saturn’s Return? We always thought that Saturn’s Return was a female thing. A female phenomenon that women bitch about to their girlfriends over bottles of wine.  Did he really want us to reveal all of our pains, anxieties, and how rough 2009 has been? Of course he didn’t. He was a sweet and respectful man that didn’t expect us to dish out our dirty laundry. Instead he said, “accept that Saturn has arrived, embrace the pains, and make the changes in your life and you will come out on top.”

Holy shit, did we just get valuable advice at an art show; amongst hipsters; in the Lower Haight? Yes we did, and it was an amazing feeling.

So what exactly is Saturn’s Return and what are we ranting about. Let us explain:

Astrologers call the period between ages 28-30 “Saturn’s Return.”  It’s the first time the planet Saturn completes its cycle through your birth chart and returns to the spot it occupied when you were born.  Experts call this period one of the most important times in your life, a time of endings and new beginnings.

This shift into adulthood affects both men and women equally.  It’s a change coupled with urgency, a feeling that you must succeed and get everything you’ve ever wanted NOW.  Astrologers say that relationships that start during this time may have a “fated” or “karmic” quality about them (♫cue this ♫).  And marriage tracked relationships are tested by the love gods.  If your job is rocky or you’re stuck in one that’s not right for you, you’ll strive to find a more fulfilling one.  Sometimes this means a complete change.

If you fall within this age group you know exactly what we’re talking about.  It’s the crap that’s going on in your life that you thought you could shake off after a night of partying, a lot of alcohol, and maybe a weekend getaway.  But after waking up from a hangover and returning home with a killer tan your life is still in ruins and Saturn has completely taken over.

But what we have to accept is that Saturn doesn’t create the problems, it merely brings them to light.  Saturn reveals what you truly want and gets rid of the bullshit that may have interfered with your growth.  No matter how difficult it seems to make changes and let people go, the first Saturn Return is the time to do it.  Otherwise shit will hit the fan again during your second Saturn Return when you’re 58.

Once you step to the problem and accept it, the pain will disappear.  You’ll feel stronger and ready to move ahead.  Change is a beautiful thing. Don’t get mad at Saturn. Love it. Accept it. Grow.
